Kolkata: In a key administrative move, the West Bengal government has announced a reshuffle, assigning new posts to multiple officers of the Indian Police Service (IPS). According to the official notification, IPS Ajay Kumar Thakur, a 2007-batch officer, has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Barrackpore Police Commissionerate. The decision made public on Saturday, signals a leadership shift aimed at enhancing law enforcement in the region.
IPS Thakur replaces IPS Alok Rajoria, who has been reassigned as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic for West Bengal Police. The move is seen as a strategic step towards strengthening traffic management and ensuring better policing across the state.
Additionally, the state government has transferred IPS Raj Narayan Mukherjee, who was previously serving as the Superintendent of Police (SP) Traffic, to the role of Commandant of the State Armed Police (SAP) 2nd Battalion. His appointment is part of a broader effort to streamline police operations and improve coordination within the force.
This reshuffle reflects the government’s intent to optimize policing strategies by positioning experienced officers in key roles. The changes are expected to bolster security, enhance traffic regulation, and ensure better law enforcement across West Bengal.
