New Delhi: SpiceJet plans to add up to 100 additional daily flights to its ongoing winter schedule, aiming to capture rising demand and restore capacity in the domestic aviation market following widespread disruptions triggered by IndiGo’s operational issues.
The airline said it has seen “strong and growing” passenger traffic across major routes and is scaling up services accordingly, subject to regulatory clearance.
The announcement comes a day after the Civil Aviation Ministry ordered IndiGo, which controls more than 60 per cent of the market, to cut 10 per cent of its winter schedule for failing to meet Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms.
The ministry said the temporary reduction would help the carrier stabilise operations after thousands of passengers were affected by cancellations and delays.
SpiceJet said it has strengthened its fleet by bringing 17 aircraft back into active service over the past two months through a mix of damp leases and reactivated planes. This expanded fleet, it added, provides the “operational flexibility” needed to deploy more capacity on high-demand routes and enhance network resilience.
The airline also indicated that further fleet additions and improved aircraft utilisation remain key priorities. SpiceJet’s stock was trading 1.08 per cent higher at Rs 34.68 on the BSE at 10:51 am on 10 December.
