Kolkata: St Xavier’s University, New Town, plans to set up a medical college and a nursing school as the first step towards expanding into medical education.
The university is currently seeking land from the state government for the project.
The university has begun consultations with hospital CEOs and medical administrators to connect with these projects.
St Xavier’s needs to procure land, tie up with a functioning hospital and get approval from the National Medical Council for the medical college.
They have requested 10 acres from the state government for infrastructure expansion, though the approval is still awaited.
St Xavier’s also announced its BTech program offering four streams of computer science and engineering, IT, electronics and communication engineering and computer and engineering (AI and ML) with a total of 240 seats beginning next year.
