Dehradun, October 24 (APAC Media): Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) has inaugurated a new incubation facility at IT Park, Sahastradhara Road, Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The facility aims to strengthen the state’s IT and IT-enabled services (ITeS) ecosystem by providing modern infrastructure and support to technology companies and startups.
The facility was inaugurated by Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology and Commerce & Industry, Government of India, in the presence of Pradeep Batra, Minister of IT and Good Governance, Government of Uttarakhand, and Ganesh Joshi, Agriculture Minister, Government of Uttarakhand.
The initiative is expected to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, technology product development, and employment generation, while creating new opportunities for emerging businesses across the state.
Facility Equipped with Modern Infrastructure
Spread across approximately 30,000 square feet and four floors, the new incubation facility offers semi-furnished office spaces, high-speed internet connectivity, and an air-conditioned, eco-friendly working environment. It also houses an auditorium, two meeting rooms, two conference rooms, and a Network Operations Centre (NOC).
The infrastructure has been designed to provide technology enterprises with a conducive environment for collaboration, business development, and expansion. By improving access to modern facilities, STPI aims to help startups and IT/ITeS companies establish and scale their operations in Uttarakhand.
Technology and Trade Key to India’s Growth
Addressing the gathering, Jitin Prasada highlighted the role of technology and trade in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation, emphasising the importance of technological self-reliance and domestic manufacturing capabilities. He said, “India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation is driven by two key engines: technology and trade. In an increasingly interconnected world, technological self-reliance is essential to ensure that the country is not dependent on external sources for critical technologies such as semiconductors. The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated how chip shortages can disrupt entire industries, underscoring the importance of building domestic manufacturing capabilities. Our focus on strengthening the semiconductor and electronics manufacturing ecosystem is aimed at securing India’s technological future while continuing to engage with the world and adopt global best practices.”
Uttarakhand’s Technology Ecosystem to Gain Momentum
Pradeep Batra underscored the importance of changing aspirations, strengthening infrastructure and creating an enabling environment to advance the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. He highlighted Uttarakhand’s potential to attract greater business interest and noted the role of initiatives such as the STPI incubation facility in supporting technology and entrepreneurship.
Batra highlighted, “The vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047 goes beyond infrastructure development; it requires a transformation in our thinking, our aspirations, and our commitment to the nation. Uttarakhand, our Devbhoomi, has immense potential to progress further, supported by the capabilities and dedication of its people. As the state attracts growing interest from tourists and businesses, strengthening infrastructure and improving access to modern facilities will be essential to meeting these aspirations. Initiatives such as STPI’s new incubation facility in Dehradun will help create an enabling environment for technology, innovation and entrepreneurship, contributing to Uttarakhand’s growth and India’s larger vision of a developed nation.”
STPI to Strengthen Startup Support Through Nationwide Network
Arvind Kumar, Director General of STPI, highlighted the organisation’s nationwide network and its role in connecting startups with investors, industry expertise and technology solutions. He said the Dehradun facility would support emerging IT/ITeS enterprises through infrastructure, mentorship, industry linkages and Centres of Entrepreneurship focused on real-world challenges, including cybersecurity.
Kumar shared, “One of STPI’s key strengths is its nationwide network, which enables startups to access investors, expertise, and technology solutions from across the country, beyond their immediate ecosystem. The new incubation facility in Dehradun will provide infrastructure for emerging IT/ITeS enterprises looking to establish or expand their operations, while also supporting startups through mentorship, industry connections, and Centres of Entrepreneurship focused on addressing real-world challenges, including cybersecurity. The facility will help to create a comprehensive support ecosystem for technology-led businesses in Uttarakhand. With the state government strengthening its focus on IT/ITeS and startup policies, we believe Uttarakhand is well positioned to accelerate the growth of its technology and startup ecosystem.”
The inauguration of the new facility marks another step towards strengthening Uttarakhand’s technology ecosystem. By expanding access to incubation infrastructure and fostering collaboration among government, industry, academia, and entrepreneurs, STPI aims to accelerate the growth of IT/ITeS enterprises, encourage intellectual property creation, and contribute to technology-led economic development and employment generation in the state.
