Gwalior: Under the Gwalior Smart City Mission, the heritage structures numbering 25 are being illuminated and in the process bringing back the focus on the rich architectural heritage. The structures are being given special effects of facade lighting at night.
An endeavour by Gwalior Smart City, almost 25 heritage buildings will radiate under the facade lighting; the total cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs 13 rore, said CEO of Gwalior Smart City, Jayati Singh.
“The work started around March; we have already completed the job on SBI Building at Maharaj Bada. Due to second wave of coronavirus and lockdown restrictions, we had problems getting the material, but by June end we will finish the work on 7 buildings of Bada. Entire project will be completed within 18 months”.
Care has been taken to use lighting solutions responsive and sensitive to the architectural value, material fabric and design of the historic buildings, which veer from Maratha era to Gothic, British and even the combination of two different eras and styles, said the CEO.
“Minimally invasive designs and fixtures, painted in colours matching the facade and energy efficient lights are the hallmark of this project. Once Covid is over, people can enjoy heritage walks, night life, chowpatty food courts and flea markets around this precious heritage, including Jal Vihar, Victoria Market, Post Office, Town Hall etc,” said Jayati.
These special effects have been designed, planned by a team of experts including architects, engineers, historians, and there was a trial done to check the impact of diffused lighting and ombre effect on each crevice and arch of the building, CEO said.
