Chennai: IIT Madras has invited applications from undergraduate students for a free online course called Python for Data Science on the SWAYAM NPTEL platform. The course aims at equipping participants to be able to use python programming for solving data science problems and carries one credit point. The course can be covered in a period of four weeks. Students who wish to take the course are required to have knowledge of basic data science algorithms.
What the IIT Madras Free Online Course on Python for Data Science Will Cover?
The following topics will be covered over a period of 4 weeks:
- Basics of Python Spyder (tool): Introduction, setting working directory, creating and saving a script file, file execution, clearing console, removing variables from environment, clearing environment, and so on.
- Sequence data types and associated operations: Strings, lists, arrays, tubules, dictionary, sets and range.
- Pandas data frame and data frame related operations on Toyota Corolla dataset.
- Data visualization on Toyoto Corolla dataset using matplotlib and seaborn libraries.
- Control structures using Toyota Corolla dataset.
- Case study: Regression – Predicting the price of pre-owned cars, and Classification – classifying personal income.
Certificate for the IIT Madras Free Online Course
While the course is free to enrol and learn from, to obtain certificates for the course participants will have to pay a fee of Rs 1000 and take an examination on 27 March 2022. Certificate will have the students’ name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup along with logos of NPTEL and IIT Madras.
