IIT Madras is currently accepting applications for a two-year International Interdisciplinary Master’s program in data science. The specially curated program provides international students from any engineering background with an opportunity to be a part of the vibrant and world-class learning environment at IIT Madras. Scholarships will be provided for accepted international students with outstanding records.
Speaking about the program, Prof V Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said: ”We are excited to offer these niche programs aimed at internationalization of the IIT Madras campus, introducing students to a diversity of thoughts and cultures, which will serve them well when they compete in a global marketplace. This initiative is a step in the direction of establishing the Vishwa Guru status of India.” Highlighting the unique aspects of this program, Prof. Raghunathan Rengaswamy, Dean (Global Engagement), IIT Madras, said, “These programs will provide international students an opportunity to learn from world-class faculty at IIT Madras working in cutting-edge interdisciplinary areas.”
What the IIT Madras International Interdisciplinary Masters Program in Data Science Will Cover
The official website says that the program includes coursework and projects on several elements of data science such as storage technology, distributed computing, data driven modeling, data analytics and mining, visualization, and security. The core courses are hands-on and fundamental in nature, while a diverse set of topics – spanning an eclectic mix of advanced algorithmic or theoretical courses and applied data science courses – are offered as electives to help the student hone their specific interest, within the larger umbrella of data science. The students will also choose a project in their area of interest, and deep dive into it in their final year.
