Oracle

Oracle has announced the release of Java 19, the most recent version of the world’s most popular programming language and development platform.

Java 19 (Oracle JDK 19) includes thousands of performance, stability, and security advancements, as well as platform enhancements that will help developers boost productivity and accelerate business-wide innovation.

Georges Saab, senior vice president of development, Java Platform and Chair, OpenJDK Governing Board, Oracle, said, “Our ongoing collaboration with the developer community is the lifeblood of Java. As the steward of Java, Oracle is steadfastly committed to providing developers and enterprises with the latest tools to help them create innovative apps and services. The powerful new enhancements in Java 19 are a testament to the monumental work across the global Java community.”

Prasad Subramanian, Senior Software Development Director, Oracle India said in a statement that Java has built both a distinct position and a legacy for itself in the development community. Java was introduced in 1996 and has since become synonymous with innovation, helping to alter the globe through its use, including remotely managing the Mars Rover in 2004. Given the importance of Java to the worldwide and Indian developer communities, they are continually working to make it more useful, stable, and advanced in order to empower developers with its many applications. The launch of Java 19 achieves that promise by aiming to deliver a platform that will assist developers in driving innovation, having considerably better stability, and increasing overall productivity.

The newest Java Development Kit (JDK) includes seven JDK Enhancement Proposals (JEPs), which bring updates and enhancements. The majority of these upgrades will be provided as follow-up preview features that will improve on functionality introduced in previous releases.

JDK 19 includes language enhancements from OpenJDK project Amber (Record Patterns and Pattern Matching for Switch); library enhancements from OpenJDK project Panama to interoperate with non-Java code (Foreign Function and Memory API) and leverage vector instructions (Vector API); and the first previews of Project Loom (Virtual Threads and Structured Concurrency), which will drastically reduce the effort required to write and maintain high-throughput, concurrent applications.

Arnal Dayaratna, Research Vice President, Software Development, IDC, said in a statement that Java developers are increasingly looking for tools to help them construct highly functioning apps that can be deployed in the cloud, on-premises, or in a hybrid environment. The innovations in Java 19 address these objectives and demonstrate how the Java ecosystem is well-positioned to meet developers’ and companies’ current and future needs.

Oracle distributes new Java Feature releases every six months on a consistent schedule. This cadence ensures a consistent supply of innovations while offering continuing enhancements to the platform’s performance, stability, and security, hence increasing Java’s pervasiveness across businesses and sectors of all sizes.
