Hyderabad: Tech Mahindra is set to establish a Global Capability Center (GCC) for Ohio-based Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Hyderabad. The proposed center, expected to employ around 3,000 people, will oversee Goodyear’s research and development (R&D) and IT operations.
This move aligns with Tech Mahindra’s broader strategy as part of its three-year turnaround plan, Project Fortius. Under this project, the company is focused on improving operating margins, accelerating revenue growth, and eliminating unprofitable accounts.
Hyderabad: A GCC Hotspot
The establishment of Goodyear’s GCC in Hyderabad reflects the broader trend of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh emerging as IT and GCC hubs. With robust infrastructure, a skilled workforce, and business-friendly policies, these regions have become preferred destinations for global enterprises looking to establish offshore capability centers.
Other Indian IT Firms Driving GCC Growth
Indian IT firms, including Tech Mahindra, have played a crucial role in facilitating GCC setups by providing workforce solutions and operational management. In a similar development, Infosys recently announced a GCC for Lufthansa, as part of a renewed IT contract valued at nearly $300 million. The increasing adoption of Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) models in major contract renewals underscores the growing demand for outsourced IT operations in India.
Significance of the Initiative: APAC News Analysis
For Tech Mahindra, securing the Goodyear GCC reinforces its strategic focus on high-value digital transformation projects while diversifying its revenue streams. For Goodyear, the move provides cost efficiencies, access to specialized talent, and accelerated digital adoption. However, questions remain on whether Tech Mahindra and Goodyear plan to transition the GCC operations back to the parent company in the future. Nonetheless, this collaboration highlights India’s growing significance in the global IT services and innovation landscape.
