Patna, Apr 24 (APAC Media): In a significant move to strengthen skill development and employment opportunities, the Bihar government has approved the transformation of 75 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into advanced skill training centres under the PM-SETU (Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs) scheme.
The initiative aims to equip students with training in high-demand sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, sales and retail management, and textile and garment technology, along with other emerging fields. The goal is to make students job-ready immediately after completing their courses.
The decision was taken during a state cabinet meeting in Patna, with a focus on aligning vocational education with evolving industry needs.
According to officials, around 70,000 youth are expected to benefit from the programme over the coming years. The project will be carried out between the financial years 2026-27 and 2029-30, with a total estimated cost of Rs. 3,615 crore. The Bihar government will contribute 33 percent of the funding, approximately Rs. 1,192 crore, while the remaining amount will be covered under the central scheme.
In another key decision, the cabinet approved the development of IIT Patna into a world-class Research Park and Innovation Hub. The project will be undertaken at a cost of Rs. 480.71 crore, fully funded by the state government. Additionally, 11 acres of land will be allocated to support future expansion of the facility.
Officials said the initiatives are expected to boost innovation, industry collaboration, and employment generation in the state.
