Noida, Sep 10 (APAC Media): Apple on Wednesday unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, along with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, as the company expanded its premium device portfolio with new hardware and artificial intelligence features.
The launch marks Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone market, where Samsung and several Chinese manufacturers have established an early presence.
The iPhone Duo has a 5.4-inch outer display that opens into a 7.6-inch screen. Apple said the device has been designed to combine the portability of a conventional smartphone with the larger display area of a tablet.
The foldable handset is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip and features a titanium frame. It has a dual-camera system comprising a 48-megapixel main camera and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera. The device also supports Apple’s Apple Pencil.
In India, the iPhone Duo will be available for Rs 299,900. Pre-orders are scheduled to begin on October 16, with sales starting October 23.
Apple also introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, both powered by the new A20 Pro processor. The Pro models receive a camera upgrade, including a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with variable aperture.
The variable-aperture system is designed to give users greater control over light entering the camera and depth of field, potentially improving photography in different lighting conditions.
The iPhone 18 Pro has been priced at Rs 164,900 in India, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at Rs 179,900. Pre-orders will begin on September 12, and the devices will go on sale from September 18.
Apple also refreshed its wearable portfolio with the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. The watches feature the company’s S11 chip and new health-monitoring capabilities.
The company said the new health sensing system can collect heart rate and heart rate variability measurements more frequently. A new Readiness score uses information such as sleep, activity and training load to provide users with an indication of their preparedness for the day.
The Watch Series 12 starts at Rs 56,900 in India, while the Watch Ultra 4 starts at Rs 109,900.
Apple also launched AirPods 5, adding active noise cancellation to its open-ear earbud design. The new AirPods start at Rs 14,900, while the wireless-charging version is priced at Rs 17,900.
Artificial intelligence was a key focus of the event, with Apple highlighting expanded Apple Intelligence capabilities and upgrades to Siri across its latest devices.
