Noida, Sep 10 (APAC Media): The National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) on Thursday launched a collaboration with US-based Saylor University to bring its digital learning resources to the NIELIT Digital University (NDU) platform, in a move aimed at widening access to online education and skilling.
The partnership was formally launched by MeitY Secretary S Krishnan at an event in New Delhi.
Under the collaboration, learners registered on the NDU platform will be able to access Saylor University’s free, self-paced online courses in areas including artificial intelligence, programming, data science, cybersecurity and business management.
Krishnan described the partnership as an important step towards expanding access to digital education and strengthening opportunities for skilling, upskilling and lifelong learning.
“Global collaborations of this nature can enhance the digital education ecosystem and help prepare learners with relevant skills to meet the changing requirements of the technology-driven economy,” he said.
The event also saw NIELIT exchange Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with eight organisations from industry, academia and professional associations.
The organisations include the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), NASSCOM, Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI), Pearson India Education Services, STEMLORE, Dassault Systèmes, ABES Engineering College and Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University (KBCNMU), Jalgaon.
The agreements are aimed at promoting industry-aligned skilling, certification, faculty development, internships and digital learning opportunities, with the NDU platform expected to play a key role.
NIELIT Director General M M Tripathi said the collaboration would help expand learning opportunities and support continuous upskilling and reskilling.
“Partnerships with industry and academia are important for strengthening digital education and emerging technology capabilities. The collaboration with Saylor University will further enrich the learning ecosystem and create more opportunities for learners to acquire skills in line with the changing needs of the digital economy,” he said.
Saylor University Provost and Senior Vice President David Shulman said the partnership would combine NIELIT’s reach in India with Saylor’s open-learning resources.
“Combining NIELIT’s nationwide digital reach with Saylor University’s open-learning resources can expand learning opportunities for students, working professionals and learners seeking to upskill or reskill,” he said.
Shulman said the collaboration could also help extend digital learning opportunities to learners in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and underserved regions.
Saylor University Vice President Sheila Jagannathan said the rapid development of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies had made continuous learning increasingly important.
“Rapid advancements in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies require a skilled workforce committed to continuous learning and upskilling,” she said.
According to NIELIT, Saylor University offers more than 160 free online courses covering areas such as AI, data science, programming and cybersecurity.
Jagannathan said the partnership would help bring together NIELIT’s nationwide reach and Saylor University’s open-learning resources to widen access to education and improve employability.
The NDU platform, launched in October 2025, currently has more than 2.80 lakh registered learners and offers over 120 courses in areas including AI, cybersecurity, data science, cloud computing, semiconductor design and VLSI, according to NIELIT.
The platform has a presence across all 36 states and Union Territories and 761 districts. It supports online and blended learning through AI-enabled tools, virtual labs and a learning
