PUNE: The civic body will rope in Ganesh mandals to improve the daily collection and management of garbage in the core areas of the city.
Officials said the generation of waste was significant in such localities because of the presence of retail and wholesale markets, as well as innumerable commercial establishments.
A joint meeting of representatives from both the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Ganesh mandals was held recently, in which the latter decided to extend their active participation to daily waste management efforts.
Officials from the civic body said that the initiative will be launched on a trial basis and then if successful, extended across the city in a phased manner. The workers of the mandals will visit markets, commercial establishments, and chronic trash dumping spots to restrict littering and ensure that garbage is handed over to PMC teams on a daily basis.
