New Delhi: All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has instructed all the technical institutes in the country to introduce Integrated Teacher Education Programmes (ITEP). ITEP programme is a move to combine a Bachelor’s Degree being in any discipline with a Bachelors of Education (BEd) degree. It is being introduced with an aim to produce proficient teachers who are subject matter experts along with the knowledge of pedagogy.
As per AICTE the ITEP programme will be functional in all technical institutes from the academic year 2023-24. The programme is set to reduce the number of years invested by a student from five years to four years to complete his/her regular degree along with BEd.
What is the AICTE ITEP Programme?
ITEP programme is a welcoming move for the education system. It is believed, it will improve the quality of teaching in technical institutes with dedicated and prolific teachers. The total duration of ITEP programme is of four years which will be divided into two parts as:
- The first to years students will carry on with their regular Bachelor’s Degree be it in any discipline.
- And, the last two years will be devoted to BEd degree.
AICTE will be conducting an entrance examination for the students aspiring to enroll in the programme. The programme holds its validation as it will be be accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) which is a government funded agency that accredits educational institutions of India.
