New Delhi: NITI Aayog has said that the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence marks a decisive turning point for India’s technology services sector, signalling structural transformation rather than decline.
The public policy think tank noted that India’s IT industry has historically adapted to major technological shifts, from the Y2K transition to the rise of cloud computing and large-scale digital transformation. According to NITI Aayog, the AI wave represents a similar inflection point, requiring a reimagining of traditional service delivery models.
It highlighted that the sector is now moving towards a new operating architecture built around human oversight, intelligent agents and platform-led ecosystems. This transition, it said, opens opportunities for India to strengthen its role in building AI-native enterprises instead of remaining confined to backend support functions.
NITI Aayog emphasised that strategic investments in innovation, capability-building and next-generation technologies will determine how effectively India capitalises on this shift. With the right policy and industry alignment, the country can position itself as a global architect of AI-driven enterprise models.
