Noida, Oct 30 (APAC Media): GAIL (India) Ltd reported a robust financial performance for the second quarter of FY27, with its consolidated net profit surging 139.3% year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 4,719.66 crore, compared with Rs 1,972.40 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.
The state-owned natural gas major’s consolidated revenue from operations increased 32.7% to Rs 47,301.03 crore in Q2FY27, against Rs 35,657.23 crore reported in the September quarter of FY26.
The strong performance was supported by growth across key business segments, particularly gas marketing, which continued to remain the company’s biggest revenue contributor.
Revenue from the gas marketing segment rose more than 31% to Rs 41,226 crore, reflecting improved business activity in wholesale gas trading and natural gas distribution.
The petrochemicals segment also recorded healthy growth, with revenue increasing nearly 26% year-on-year, while the natural gas transmission business posted a 21% rise during the quarter.
The results come amid an improvement in India’s natural gas supply situation following disruptions in global energy markets.
GAIL Chairman and Managing Director Deepak Gupta had said in September that the country initially had to restrict gas consumption but subsequently restored supplies to nearly 90-95% as it strengthened its ability to procure liquefied natural gas (LNG) from alternative international sources.
“The country had to limit gas consumption initially, but supplies were subsequently resumed to almost 90% to 95% as we ramped up our capability to buy LNG from elsewhere,” Gupta had indicated.
In another significant development, GAIL announced that it had granted in-principle approval for the proposed initial public offering (IPO) of its subsidiary, GAIL Gas Ltd.
Under the proposal, the company may divest up to 25% of its stake in the subsidiary through a public listing, subject to final approval from its board.
The proposed listing is expected to provide GAIL Gas with an opportunity to access capital markets while potentially unlocking value for the parent company.
Meanwhile, GAIL’s operating expenses also increased during the quarter, rising more than 23% year-on-year, reflecting higher business activity and associated costs.
Overall, the substantial growth in profitability and revenue highlights GAIL’s strong performance across its core natural gas businesses, supported by improved supply availability and sustained demand across key segments.
