New Delhi, Oct 12(APAC Media): Harness has acquired select Augment Code assets to expand its AI-powered software development capabilities. The deal includes Cosmos, Auggie CLI, the Code Context Engine and related technology, along with the team behind these products.
The acquisition will add the Harness Cosmos Software Factory Agent to Harness’s Autonomous Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) platform. The agent will automate coding tasks, from understanding requirements and writing code to testing changes and preparing pull requests for review.
AI Coding Agents And Software Automation
Cosmos agents can work on software requirements, bug reports and development tickets. They plan changes, write code, run tests and open pull requests. They can also address reviewer comments and failed checks by updating the same pull request. Engineers remain involved in decisions that require human judgement, including design approval and final code merging.
The acquisition also brings Augment Code’s Code Context Engine, which maps a codebase to help AI agents understand existing software and make relevant changes. Harness plans to connect this technology with its Software Delivery Knowledge Graph, which contains information about builds, deployments, security, infrastructure and cloud costs.
Harness Connects Coding With Software Delivery
The combined platform is designed to help AI agents use information from across the software development lifecycle. For example, testing failures, security issues and deployment findings could provide feedback to coding agents, helping them fix problems before changes reach production.
Harness plans to connect Cosmos with its existing software delivery, security testing, runtime protection and cost management agents. The company also aims to bring coding workflows under its existing enterprise policies, permissions and approval processes.
For enterprises, the move expands the role of AI from code generation to managing more stages of software development. Harness has not disclosed the financial terms of the acquisition in its announcement.
