New Delhi, Oct 27(APAC Media): Sarvam has signed an agreement with India’s defence establishment to develop AI applications for all three armed forces.
The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS), under the Ministry of Defence, on October 27, 2026, in New Delhi. The agreement establishes a framework for AI projects across the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force, as well as joint and integrated defence organisations.
Focus Areas: Military AI And Decision Support
Under the agreement, Sarvam will develop and deploy AI applications for military operations, training and decision support. The projects will also cover target acquisition, data fusion and geospatial intelligence, with human oversight retained over operational decisions.
The partnership aims to build AI capabilities using Indian technology and sovereign infrastructure, aligning with the government’s push to reduce dependence on foreign technology in defence.
Sarvam To Deploy Its AI Models Through Chanakya
The work will be carried out by Chanakya, Sarvam’s dedicated division for national security and defence. It will use the company’s AI technology stack, including its Sarvam 105B foundation model.
The framework will allow the three Services to access common foundation models, AI agent infrastructure, geospatial tools and perception systems. This could also help them apply lessons from individual projects across different branches of the armed forces.
Sarvam co-founder Pratyush Kumar said the company would work with HQ IDS to develop AI systems for India’s defence requirements.
The MoU provides an umbrella framework for multiple projects, with HQ IDS facilitating coordination across the Services. The agreement does not specify a project-wise budget or deployment timeline.
