Hyderabad: The double decker buses that were gradually phased out would be making a comeback to the historic city of Hyderabad. Tender has been released for 25 buses.
It was in the month of November last year that the Municipal Administration and Urban Development minister K T Rama Rao replying to a request from a citizen instructed the Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay to look at the possibility of bringing back the buses.
The Transport Minister spoke to officials of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), which in turn set up a committee to review the feasibility of operating double-decker buses.
The minister also recalled his school days. “I have many fond memories of riding the double-decker bus on my way to St George’s Grammar School at Abids,” tweeted Rama Rao.
People in the city warmed up to the idea of bringing back the buses. It may be noted that several cities in the world such as London and Singapore have these buses and are a huge hit with the tourists and locals alike.
