New Delhi: According to LocalCircles survey, 75 per cent of citizens gave a thumbs up for vaccination and were in favour of the Government providing vaccination and also allowing private labs and hospitals to vaccinate people. The survey was done in 281 districts of India with a sample of 19,000. 68 per cent of the respondents were men while 32 per cent were women.
An interesting finding from the survey was 70 per cent of the respondents said they did not experience any discomfiture. 30 per cent said that they experienced irregularities including false certification.
On pricing as well, majority of the respondents were fine to pay upto Rs 600 for two doses. The government permitted private hospitals to collect Rs 250 per dose.
The majority of the people surveyed believe that faster vaccination would help tide over the pandemic.
It may be noted that there has been wastage of Covid-19 vaccines. In Maharashtra and Jaipur where there has been a spike of cases in the last two months. In Jaipur, 63 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses have gone waste and in Maharashtra the vaccine wastage has been at 3.2 per cent. The respondents felt that wastage of vaccines has to be tackled as lakhs of deserving would not get vaccination.
Other aspects of the survey included: 15 per cent of citizens saying they observed influencing or certification by healthcare professionals to qualify someone as co-morbid or as a health or frontline worker, ) overcharging to qualify someone as co-morbid or as a health or frontline worker, administration of leftover doses to those using influence or providing monetary gratification.
On social media there has been a flurry of activity with people posting videos expressing doubts on administering the vaccine due to side effects and others questioning its efficacy. However, the survey shows that a majority are in favour of the vaccine.
