New Delhi: The Arvind Kejriwal government has given a major fillip to the health sector by allocating Rs 9,934 crore in the Delhi budget 2021. It amounts to 14 per cent of the total outlay for the health sector. The Delhi Government allotted Rs 50 crore for vaccination drive and mohalla clinics for women will be opened in in the first phase. The eventual number would comprise at least one in each of the 272 municipal wards.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced a cloud-based Health Information Management System (HIMS) and digital health card. Delhi ke Farishte scheme, initiative aimed at felicitating citizens who take accident victims to hospitals, will continue, said the minister.
Kejriwal expressed satisfaction that despite the challenges posed by Covid-19 pandemic when the income sources of the government dwindled and sources of expenditure spiralled, the government was able to present a budget estimate worth Rs 69,000 crore compared to the Rs 65,000 crore presented last year, which is an increase of six percent.
The Chief Minister noted that the government continued with subsidy and distributed free medicines and medical facilities in government hospitals, free bus rides for women. He also said that this year’s budget has also ensured that these subsidies continue.

Almost one fourth of the budget has been allocated for education while 14 percent of the budget is being spent on health, which has been the priorities of the government from the very beginning,” he said.
The minister also announced that the Delhi government will allocate Rs 10 crore for programmes on the life of Dr BR Ambedkar that will be observed during the ‘deshbhakti’ celebrations. Another Rs 10 crore will be allocated for programmes and events on the life of Bhagat Singh. The government will also open its first Sainik Schools in Delhi and a deshbhakti curriculum will be started in Delhi schools.
