Gurugram: MCG has urged the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) to initiate work for building a waste processing facility in Pali. In a review meeting chaired by MCG commissioner PC Meena on Tuesday, MCF officials were told to develop the site so that waste produced by the two cities daily can be diverted to the land parcel.
The committee set up by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for waste management in Bandhwari had on January 16 had directed MCG and MCF officials that the site at Pali should be developed so that daily waste can be diverted there instead of the landfill. According to officials, the land was earlier under litigation due to an ownership dispute at the Punjab and Haryana high court, which has now dismissed the petition. The land parcel in Pali is spread across 52 acres.
“MCF has been directed to construct a boundary wall, level the land and build a platform at the site within 15 to 20 days. After the site is developed, a waste processing unit will be set up at the site. We are acting on the directions of the NGT committee,” said an MCG official. Residents of 20 villages around Pali, including those sharing boundaries with Delhi and Gurugram, are planning to again stage a protest against the waste processing plant.
“The case on the ownership of the land parcel in Pali has been dismissed, but we haven’t received the order yet. Apart from the ownership of land, there are multiple reasons for not allowing a waste dump yard to be set up here. We are now planning to hold a protest,” said Jitender Bhadana, an environmental activist and Pali resident.
“Bandhwari and Pali are both Aravali areas. The disposal of waste should not be done in a forest,” said Vaishali Rana Chandra, a city-based environmentalist.
