PILIBHIT: The Uttar Pradesh sugarcane department launched an online system for booking mini sugarcane seed kits for over 46 lakh farmers in the state, to maintain transparency in the distribution process.
Sanjay R Bhoosreddy, the additional chief secretary of sugarcane and sugar industry of the state, said that the system ensures transparency in distributing one-eyed pieces of cane seeds to the growers in reference to their actual requirements.
The department would start the distribution of mini kits on March 4 on the occasion of ‘Mithas Mela’ scheduled to be organised at Shahjahanpur-based UP Council of Sugarcane Research (UPCSR).
“The mini kits would include two latest varieties of the cane seed — CoS 17231 and CoS 16233 — which are high yielding and disease resistant,” Bhoosreddy said.
Meanwhile, the director of UPCSR, Dr Sudhir Shukla, said, “In the primary stage, we will provide a maximum of 200 one eyed pieces of cane seeds to one farmer. This system will ensure access to the latest varieties of seeds for all cane growers. Once the farmers grow this seed, they will have enough seeds for next cane sowing too, in the form of their crop.”
