New Delhi: Vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday urged public representatives to make water conservation a priority and set an example for the nation by incorporating it into their daily lives.
Speaking at the 4th National Water Awards ceremony, the vice-president emphasized the need to accelerate the cause of water conservation, or Jal Andolan.
Highlighting the significance of the 3Rs of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, Dhankhar called for the rejuvenation of traditional water harvesting structures like ponds to ensure efficient utilization of this precious resource. He emphasized that water conservation should become an integral part of every citizen’s routine.
Reiterating constitutional provisions enshrined in the directive principles of state policy and the fundamental duties, which stress on the conservation of water and the environment, the vice president emphasized that every citizen has a responsibility to ensure the wise utilization of nature’s gifts. He urged individuals to align their natural resource utilization with their optimal needs.
To amplify the message of water conservation, the vice president also inaugurated a short film featuring Piku, the mascot of the National Water Mission. The film, set to be telecast on Doordarshan, aims to create greater awareness and inspire citizens to actively participate in water conservation efforts.
