New Delhi: Ravi Sinha IPS has been appointed as new Secretary in the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Sinha on Monday.
According to an order issued from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Sinha has been appointed to the post in place of Samant Kumar Goel (IPS), on completion of his tenure on June 30, for a tenure of two years from the date of assumption of the charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Sinha is a 1988-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Chhattisgarh cadre. Presently, he is posted as PSO, Special Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat (SR).
The R&WA is the foreign intelligence agency of India. The agency’s primary function is gathering foreign intelligence, counter-terrorism, counter-proliferation, advising Indian policymakers, and advancing India’s foreign strategic interests. It is also involved in the security of India’s nuclear programme.
