Kashmir: Bharti Airtel has joined hands with the Indian Army to bring telecom connectivity to remote villages in North Kashmir, including areas along the Line of Control (LoC). This initiative, part of the Prime Minister’s Vibrant Village Programme, targets underserved regions in Kupwara, Baramulla, and Bandipore districts.
The telecom operator has installed 15 mobile towers across villages such as Kachhal, Balbir, Razdan Pass, Taya Top, Ustad, Kathi, and Cheema, located in the Keran, Machhal, Tangdhar, Gurez, and Uri valleys. These new networks provide much-needed communication services to local residents and boost operational connectivity for soldiers stationed at military outposts, facilitating smoother coordination and family contact.
Airtel’s position as the sole private telecom provider in these regions highlights its critical role in bridging connectivity gaps in India’s border areas. The project aligns with national goals of improving digital infrastructure in challenging terrains, where harsh weather and proximity to borders have traditionally limited such initiatives.
The company has previously extended its services to high-altitude military zones, including the Galwan River region and Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO) in Ladakh, India’s northernmost military outpost. These efforts underscore a growing focus on ensuring strategic and civilian connectivity in some of the country’s most isolated areas.
