Kolkata Police to add hi-tech drones to enhance surveillance

Kolkata: Kolkata Police plans to add 2 state-of-the-art drones to its existing fleet to enhance surveillance across the city.

These new drones with their modern hi-tech cameras can effectively take pictures from an altitude of 5-6 km spanning a radius of 3 km. The total costs will be in thr range of Rs 11 lakhs.

With new areas like Bhangar and Bantala Leather Complex coming under the ambit of Kolkata Police, these new drones will help enhance monitoring and surveillance in these wide expanses beyond regular city limits.

These new drones will weigh hardly 1 kg while they can easily fly for at least 40 minutes. Equipped with 8 batteries with longer life than the existing ones, these drones are also capable of tracking wind speed as they will be flying at an altitude of 6 Km.

There will be less fan sound and if the drone encounters any obstacle and comes down near any land or water bodies, thr sensors inside will alert the operator and it will be clearly visible on the screen.

Thr new added areas like Bhangar and Bantala are dotted with paddy and vegetable fields and fisheries. These new drones can monitor any activity in these wide expanses through an eagles eye birds eye view. Even any activities on rooftops can be visible through three drones.

According to Lalbazar, the existing drones can fly only upto 2-3 km and their batteries drain out quickly.
