New Delhi: The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi are developing an AI-powered chatbot to enhance disaster warnings and emergency communication.
The chatbot, designed to support multilingual interactions, aims to assist disaster management teams and affected communities with real-time updates.
AI-Driven Disaster Communication
The chatbot will integrate Natural Language Processing (NLP), Text-to-Speech (TTS), Speech-to-Text (STT), and image processing to automate critical communication during emergencies. By leveraging AI, it will provide real-time alerts and direct emergency calls to appropriate response teams.
One of its key features is multilingual voice recognition, which is expected to improve communication, especially in rural areas where language barriers often slow down emergency response. The chatbot will process voice commands, analyze images to assess disaster impact and help authorities in decision-making by analyzing real-time data.
Improving Coordination in Disaster Management
The chatbot will integrate with existing emergency response networks, allowing seamless coordination between multiple agencies. It will automate the dissemination of emergency alerts, ensuring that information reaches stakeholders quickly.
As C-DOT operates as the R&D unit of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to use AI to strengthen disaster preparedness. IIT-Delhi’s collaboration brings research-driven AI expertise into the project.
By combining AI-powered insights with automated communication, the chatbot is expected to improve response times during disasters, reduce misinformation, and streamline coordination among relief teams.
