Kolkata: The West Bengal government has appointed IAS Anup Kumar Agarwal, 1993 batch, as the Additional Chief Secretary of the IT Department.
IAS Agarwal is currently the Principal Secretary, Technical Education, Training and Skill Development. With his long experience in administration, IAS Agarwal has been known to be an able administrator. He will now design the IT roadmap and the digital infrastructure of the state.
IPS Rajiv Kumar, Director General of Police, West Bengal, has been relieved of his additional duties as Additional Chief Secretary, IT. The 1989 batch IPS officer was handed this additional responsibility in 2019.
While the norm is to appoint an IAS officer to this position, the exception here dignified special importance in this case. This reshuffle is probably keeping in mind that IPS Kumar can focus more on the police administration.
Several other police level reshuffling also happened on 3 June. This includes:
- IPS Sanjay Singh was shifted to DG, Cyber Cell from DG, Home Guard.
- IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade takes over as ADG, Home Guard from ADG, IGP (A).
- Hari Kishore Kusumakar takes over as ADG IGP Postal Cell from ADG Cyber Cell.
- IPS Damayanti Sen becomes ADG IGP Armed Police from ADG IGP Policy.
- Ex Police Commissioner Kolkata Police Vineet Goyal shifted to ADG IGP Administration from ADG STF
- IPS Anand Kumar will take additional responsibility as ADG, IGP Policy, besides his current ADG Legal.
- IGP two CID Sankha Subhra Chakraborty has been given the additional responsibility of IGP Cyber Cell.
