New Delhi: A new taxi service backed by eight cooperatives has been registered as Multi-Statr Sahakari Taxi Cooperative.
These eight include National Cooperative Development Corporation, Amul, NDDB, IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED and the National Cooperative Export Ltd.
The eight have jointly committed $9 million out of an authorised capital of $34 million.
Their areas of operation will span Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. 200 drivers have been onboarded across four states.
The taxi service will reportedly be launched under the brand name Bharat.
The drivers are not just service providers but also co-owners of the business. Here, a cooperative governance scheme can be applied to a tech-enabled service model.
The interim board already includes representatives from all seven promoting institutions, providing both domain expertise and operative stewardship.
