New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Urban Extension Road-2 (UER-2) and the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway on Saturday, August 16. The new corridors are projected to cut travel time between Noida and Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport from over an hour to approximately 20 minutes.
Currently, commuters from Noida reach IGI Airport via the DND Flyway, Ashram Chowk, and Dhaula Kuan, often encountering heavy congestion. With the new link, travellers can directly access the Dwarka Expressway and UER-2 without entering central Delhi, bypassing high-traffic stretches such as Ring Road, AIIMS, and NH-48.
Designed as Delhi’s new “Outer Ring Road,” UER-2 will connect multiple NCR cities, including Sonipat, Panipat, Karnal, Ambala, Rohtak, Jind, and Bahadurgarh, while enhancing direct access to IGI Airport. The 4–6 lane road, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 8,000 crore, begins at Alipur on NH-44 and passes through Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh, and Dwarka before merging with NH-48 at Mahipalpur. It also links NH-9 and NH-48, improving freight and passenger movement across the region.
The inauguration near Dwarka will be attended by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and several MPs and MLAs from Delhi-NCR.
The project forms part of the government’s broader plan to decongest urban traffic and strengthen intercity connectivity in the National Capital Region.
