Kolkata: The West Bengal Health Department has decided to fill in nearly 8000 vacant positions across the department in different areas.
While notifications from the Health Department for some positions have already been released, others are coming out soon.
There will be appointments of doctors, nurses and medical technologists too.
A total of 1,227 will be appointed as general duty Medical Officers. Another 621 will be appointed as Specialist doctors.
In addition, 5018 nurses will be appointed. Out of them, there will be 2330 in basic BSc nursing posts, 252 in post-basic BSc, 2092 GNM female nurses and 344 GNM male nurses.
Another 227 medical technologists will also be recruited.
The West Bengal Junior Doctors Association had written to the Chief Secretary and Health Secretary nine months back about the necessity of recruitments in the sector.
With the recruitments finally happening, newly appointed individuals will be assigned to areas in dite need of a skilled workforce.
