Port Blair: Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, on 3 January, with discussions centred on national security, disaster management, cyber security and regional infrastructure.
According to reports, the meeting, which began at 11 am, was scheduled to continue till 2.15 pm. During the deliberations, Shah emphasised the need for a multi-pronged strategy involving convergence, coordination, communication and capacity-building to effectively tackle cybercrime.
A separate session was also held on the strategic importance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Later in the day, Shah was set to inaugurate an exhibition on the ‘Naveen Nyaya Sanhita’, or the new criminal laws, at the ITF Ground in Sri Vijaya Puram, formerly known as Port Blair.
He also laid the foundation stones for different projects worth Rs 373 crore in the Andaman and Nicobar.
