New Delhi, Apr 10 (APAC Media): The Government of India has announced that, April 14, 2026, will be observed as a closed holiday for all Central Government Offices and industrial establishments across the country on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.
According to an official communication issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the decision applies uniformly to all ministries and departments of the Government of India. The holiday will also be applicable to a wide range of constitutional and statutory bodies, including the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), National Commissions for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Minorities, and Backward Classes, as well as the Supreme Court, High Courts, Central Administrative Tribunal, Election Commission of India, and other key institutions.
The notification further extends the holiday directive to the Prime Minister’s Office, Cabinet Secretariat, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Secretariats, NITI Aayog, and various autonomous and subordinate offices under the Central Government. Financial institutions such as the Reserve Bank of India have also been included in the list circulated for compliance and information.
The ministry has instructed all departments to widely circulate the order to ensure proper awareness among employees and stakeholders. The notification is also being shared with employee welfare coordination committees and related administrative bodies for necessary action and dissemination.
“The holiday is being observed in recognition of the significant contribution of Dr B. R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution and a prominent social reformer who worked extensively for the upliftment of marginalised communities and the promotion of social justice and equality.” Officials said.
The circular has been issued with the approval of the competent authority and is being uploaded on the official website of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) for public reference. Wide publicity has also been requested through the Press Information Bureau and other communication channels.
With this announcement, all Central Government establishments across India will remain closed on April 14, 2026, in observance of Ambedkar Jayanti.
