New Delhi, August 20(APAC Media): Apple appears to be testing cameras in AirPods.
A leaked video found in the macOS Tahoe 26.7 release candidate shows what appears to be a new pair of AirPods being used with Siri and Visual Intelligence. The footage gives a clearer look at how Apple could use cameras in its earbuds if the product reaches the market.
Visual Intelligence Comes To AirPods
The short clip shows a person wearing AirPods while looking at a book. Siri refers to Visual Intelligence and suggests that users can ask it to save something they are viewing.
The cameras are not clearly visible in the video, although the earbuds appear similar to current AirPods Pro models with slightly thicker stems. Previous reports have suggested that the cameras would mainly provide visual information to Siri rather than work like conventional smartphone cameras.
Apple has not announced the product, but the appearance of the demonstration inside a release candidate adds to the existing reports about the project.
B790 AirPods Could Be The 2026 Model
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported that Apple is developing camera-equipped AirPods under the B790 codename. References to B790 have also appeared in Apple’s software, while an earlier project known as B798 is reportedly being prepared for 2027.
The B790 version is reportedly further along and could arrive later this year. If Apple follows that timeline, the upcoming iPhone 18 launch window could become an important moment for the new AirPods. However, Apple has not confirmed a launch date.
Why The Cameras Matter
The reported design would give Siri access to information from the user’s surroundings without requiring them to hold up an iPhone. Visual Intelligence could potentially help identify objects, read text or understand what the user is looking at.
For now, the leaked video is evidence of Apple’s development work, not confirmation of a commercial product. The pricing, final design and launch plans for the camera-equipped AirPods remain unknown.
