New Delhi, August 7 (APAC Media): Parliament on Friday passed the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026, with the Lok Sabha approving the legislation after it had cleared the Rajya Sabha earlier this week.
The Bill amends the MSME Development Act, 2006, with the aim of addressing delayed payments to MSMEs and simplifying the dispute resolution process.
The legislation was passed amid repeated disruptions in both Houses of Parliament, where Opposition members demanded a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged police action against students protesting on July 20.
In the Lok Sabha, Union MSME Minister moved the Bill for consideration and passage after the House reassembled following its first adjournment. The Bill was passed despite continued sloganeering by Opposition members.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticised the disruptions, stating that Union Home Minister Amit Shah regularly attends Parliament during the session.
Earlier in the day, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla paid tributes to the freedom fighters and martyrs of the Quit India Movement on its 84th anniversary. Members also observed tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and those who sacrificed their lives for India’s independence.
The Rajya Sabha also witnessed repeated disruptions over the alleged police action against students protesting the NEET issue.
During Question Hour, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw attempted to respond to a question on the Kavach train protection system but could not complete his reply due to continuous protests.
Both Houses have been adjourned and will reconvene on Monday at 11 a.m.
