New Delhi, Oct 27(APAC Media): Tata Communications announced plans to commit nearly $450 million toward building a high-capacity, low-latency network across India to support scaling AI workloads.
The telecom major will lay approximately 10,000 kilometres of new long-haul fibre infrastructure. The initial Phase 1 deployment establishes a dedicated corridor connecting major industrial and technology hubs, including Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, and Chennai.
Subsequent expansion phases will reach additional strategic nodes, such as Vizag, Bhubaneswar, Jamnagar, and GIFT City. The architecture directly bridges domestic data-centre hubs with international cable landing stations to handle heavy data transfers.
Rapid enterprise adoption of large language models and generative AI tools has created critical bandwidth bottlenecks.
High-capacity physical networks are essential to move massive volumes of data with minimal latency. While chip supply and data-centre capacity usually dominate industry discussions, physical connectivity infrastructure forms the core backbone of global computing competitiveness. High-speed fibre access will ultimately determine how effectively local facilities process complex AI models and integrate into international digital supply chains.
