IIT Kharagpur is offering a free online course on data morning for interested students and professionals through the NPTEL platform
IIT Kharagpur has invited applications from interested students and professionals for a free online course on Data Mining, which can be completed in 8 weeks. The course, which is available of the SWAYAM NPTEL platform of the Ministry of Education, also carries two credit points. Participants of the course will receive an explanation on basic algorithms like data preprocessing, association rules, classification, clustering, sequence mining and visualization.
The course will be conducted by professor Pabitra Mitra who is an associate professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. The professor has a BTech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur and PhD from ISI Calcutta. He was a Scientist at Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Bangalore and an Assistant Professor at IIT Kanpur. Furthermore, the professor has won various awards and also written a book on data mining and has about 50 papers in international journals.
What the IIT Kharagpur Free Online Course on Data Mining Will Cover?
The fundamentals of data mining will be covered over a period off 8 weeks, and case studies on industrial problems will also be demonstrated. The following are the topics that will be covered as part of the course:
- Introduction, and data preprocessing.
- Association rule mining, and classification basics.
- Decision Tree, Bayes Classifier, and K nearest neighbor.
- Support Vector Machine, and Kernel Machine.
- Clustering, and Outlier detection.
- Sequence mining.
- Evaluation, and visualization.
- Case studies.
How to Apply for IIT Kharagpur Free Online Course and Other Important Details
Interested participants will have to apply on the NPTEL platform before 21 February 2022. While the course is free to enroll and learn from, to obtain a certificate participants will have to pay Rs 1000 and take an examination on 23 April 2022.
