Indovation Centre to Focus on Deep-Tech, AI
The proposed centre will function as a regional innovation hub for the northwestern states and Union Territories, with a focus on emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, Industry 4.0, cybersecurity, deep-tech and technology transfer.
The initiative will also support intellectual property rights (IPR) generation, protection and commercialisation, while strengthening the startup and innovation ecosystem in the region.
AICTE has also described the partnership as a step towards catalysing innovation and entrepreneurship across North-Western India, with plans for a dedicated hub on the PU campus focused on startup incubation, technology transfer and emerging technology capabilities.
Students, Researchers to Get Technology Commercialisation Support
The centre will help students, faculty members and researchers convert research outcomes into technologies, products and enterprises.
It will also facilitate the development of functional IPR and Technology Transfer Cells across institutions in the region, helping strengthen capabilities in patent generation, protection, licensing and commercialisation.
The initiative will include a focus on life sciences, particularly technology development, transfer and licensing. It will also encourage collaboration among academia, industry, startups and innovators.
Building a Regional Innovation Ecosystem
The MoU builds on the Panjab University Tech Innovation Forum, which was inaugurated on September 4 by Vice-President of India and ex-officio Chancellor of Panjab University C. P. Radhakrishnan.
The Indovation Centre is expected to extend the forum’s work into regional capacity building, emerging technology development, intellectual property and commercialisation of research.
