NAVI MUMBAI: Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis recently inaugurated the Navi Mumbai police commissionerate’s dedicated hi-tech cyber police station and women assistance centre at Nerul .
Fadnavis, while addressing the gathering, stressed on women’s safety and appreciated the steps taken by the police department to ensure that women can safely travel late at night. He also emphasised on increasing the conviction rate and setting up of more fast-track courts for speedy trials.
During the inauguration of the women assistance centre, the police also launched ‘Nirbhaya Squad’. As many as 10 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga cars and 40 Activa scooters have been provided to the police through CSR by companies in Navi Mumbai. The vehicles will be used for patrolling across the city to ensure the safety of women, especially at night, said the police.
“It is equally important to rehabilitate the women who have faced sexual assault, to help them get rid of their mental trauma by proper counselling,” said Fadnavis.
“With financial aid from the central government, the Maharashtra government will soon set up women welfare centres where these women will be accommodated for three years and will be provided with basic amenities. It will also ensure that they are provided with jobs later,” added the deputy chief minister.
