DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the Automatic Number Plate Recognition System (ANPR) developed by the transport department at the Secretariat on Tuesday. The ANPR aims to enable online monitoring of traffic violations.
The project, which will be implemented in phases, has been approved with Rs 4.61 crore in the first phase through the State Road Safety Fund. The first phase focuses on setting up ANPR on state borders.
The CM said, “The installation of ANPR cameras would help departments like GST and prevent tax evasion while reducing traffic congestion at check-posts.” The system will also integrate with other departments, such as mining, excise, tourism, urban development, forest, and police, said Secretary Transport, Arvind Singh Hyanki.
