Guwahati: IAS Dr Ravi Kota has been appointed as the Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam. The announcement was made by the Assam government’s personnel department in an official order on Tuesday. His tenure will commence upon the superannuation of the current Chief Secretary, IAS Paban Kumar Borthakur, on March 31.
Previously, IAS Dr Ravi Kota served as the Additional Chief Secretary for the Home & Political Department, including Passport and Prisons. He has now been transferred and posted as Additional Chief Secretary of the Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprises Department, with an additional charge of the Finance Department. He will also serve as OSD in the Office of the Chief Secretary, Assam.
Dr Kota is a 1993 batch officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre. He has a career spanning over 30 years in both Union and state governments and is a gold medalist with a Ph.D. in Agronomy. He has extensive leadership experience in public finance, fiscal practices, and macroeconomic policies.
He has served as Joint Secretary of the 15th Finance Commission in the Ministry of Finance, Government of India and Principal Secretary, Finance, in Assam.
Dr Ravi Kota has also represented the Government of India as the head of the economic wing at the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C. There, he focused on India-US economic relations, monetary issues, and investments. Dr. Kota also handled matters related to the World Bank, IMF, and the US-India Clean Energy and Climate Partnership 2030.
