Bengaluru: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has appointed IAS Maheshwar Rao M, from the 1995 batch, as its new Managing Director. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, which shares governance responsibilities in BMRCL, gave its approval for Rao’s appointment.
Rao will succeed IAS officer Anjum Parwez, who served in the position for nearly two and a half years. Parwez, in turn, will continue in the role of Additional Chief Secretary of the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj department.
Rao has a BA in Mathematics, Economics, and Statistics from Nizam College, Hyderabad Central University. Additionally, he earned a Master’s degree in Economics (Econometrics and Growth) from the University of Hyderabad and a Master’s degree in Public Management from NUS & Harvard University.
Prior to his current appointment, Rao served as the Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Department of Space, Bengaluru. He has also served as Deputy Commissioner in Mandya, Mangalore, Belagavi, and Hassan in the Karnataka Government.
He held key positions such as Managing Director of Karnataka State Industrial Investment and Development Corporation, Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd, and Principal Secretary in various departments, including Labour and Employment, Information & Public Relations, and Industry & Commerce.
