Noida, Oct 2 (APAC Media): Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. reported a 40% year-on-year increase in total passenger vehicle sales in the second quarter of FY27, with volumes reaching 201,723 units compared with 144,397 units in the year-ago period.
Domestic passenger vehicle sales rose 40% to 196,674 units in Q2 FY27 from 140,189 units a year earlier. International business sales increased 20% to 5,049 units from 4,208 units.
Sales in September stood at 70,210 units, up 15% from 60,907 units in the same month last year.
Electric vehicle sales, including domestic and international markets, more than doubled during the quarter, rising 90% year-on-year to 47,150 units from 24,855 units.
Shailesh Chandra, managing director and chief executive officer of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., said demand remained strong in the quarter despite the seasonally softer period.
“In Q2 FY27, passenger vehicle demand sustained the strong momentum seen following GST 2.0, despite the quarter being seasonally softer,” Chandra said.
He said industry Vahan registrations grew by around 24% year-on-year, supported by the rising adoption of greener powertrains.
“For Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Q2 FY27 was our highest-ever quarter, with sales of 201,723 units and industry-beating growth of 40% year-on-year,” Chandra said. “We ended the quarter on a strong note, crossing the 70,000-unit sales milestone in September.”
The company said electric vehicles were a key growth driver, with quarterly EV sales crossing 47,000 units for the first time. EVs accounted for 23% of Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle sales during the quarter, compared with around 8% for the industry, according to the company.
CNG vehicles also recorded their highest-ever quarterly sales and accounted for 28% of the company’s volumes. Combined, EV and CNG models contributed 51% of total sales in Q2.
Chandra said the company saw strong customer response across its portfolio, with the Punch emerging as India’s highest-selling SUV during the quarter.
The company also expanded its portfolio with the Curvv SeriesX, Sierra Legend Series and the all-new Tata Aeris, following launches in the first quarter.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles also unveiled its new customer-facing brand identity, TATA.CARS, during the quarter.
Looking ahead to the festive season, Chandra said the company was supported by a strong order book and healthy customer traction.
“As we progressively scale up production, our focus will be on fully leveraging this demand, sustaining our growth momentum and further strengthening our competitive position in the market,” he said.
