Amaravati, Oct 3(APAC Media): Reliance Industries plans to invest ₹1 lakh crore in compressed biogas (CBG) plants in Andhra Pradesh, Executive Director Anant Ambani said on October 2.
The investment is expected to create more than 3 lakh jobs and generate nearly ₹60,000 crore in revenue for the state over the coming decades, according to Ambani.
CBG Investment In Andhra Pradesh
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub and Indian School of Agriculture in Madanapalle, Ambani said Reliance wants farmers to participate in the clean-energy economy alongside agriculture.
The company plans to develop CBG projects that can use agricultural resources as part of its broader bio-energy strategy. Ambani said the group wants farmers to become “Urja Daatas” while continuing to contribute to food security.
Reliance’s Agriculture Technology Plans
The proposed Indian School of Agriculture will focus on technology-led farming, with artificial intelligence, drones, robotics, cloud computing, greenhouse technology and price intelligence among the areas highlighted by Ambani.
Jio will work with the institution to take farmer training programmes to villages through virtual classrooms. The programmes are expected to be offered in Indian languages, with rural youth potentially working as digitally enabled extension workers.
Rayalaseema Gets ₹40,000 Crore Project
Ambani also said the Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub involves an investment of ₹40,000 crore. Reliance plans to share expertise from its bio-energy research and development centre in Jamnagar with farmers through the proposed agriculture school.
The group also plans to work with the institution on hi-tech animal husbandry. Ambani said the school could also collaborate with Vantara’s proposed university focused on wildlife and veterinary sciences.
Andhra Pradesh Investment Push
Ambani cited Andhra Pradesh government data showing that 388 mega projects worth more than ₹14 lakh crore have been approved in the state since June 2024. These projects are estimated to have the potential to create nearly 11 lakh jobs.
He said around one-third of the investments are planned for the Rayalaseema region, where Reliance’s proposed CBG and horticulture projects will form part of the company’s expanding presence in the state.
