New Delhi: The Union Government has appointed Sanjay Malhotra as the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. According to an official notification from the Department of Personnel and Training, Malhotra is set to take charge from December 11, 2024, replacing Shaktikanta Das.

Who is Sanjay Malhotra?
Sanjay is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer of the 1990 batch belonging to the Rajasthan cadre. He is currently serving as the Revenue Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, wherein he plays an instrumental role in direct and indirect tax policy formulation. Sanjay brings extensive experience of more than three decades in finance and taxation at the state as well as central government levels. He has previously worked in multifarious sectors, including power, finance & taxation, information technology, mines, etc.

Educational Background
Sanjay is an Engineering graduate in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. In addition, he holds a Master’s in Public Policy from Princeton University, USA.
