Kolkata: In a significant administrative reshuffle, IAS officer Vijay Bharti of the 2005 batch, belonging to the West Bengal cadre, has been appointed as the Secretary of the Science & Technology and Biotechnology Department in West Bengal. This marks another milestone in Bharti’s illustrious career spanning nearly two decades.
Before assuming this new role, Bharti served as the Principal Secretary of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), where he played a pivotal role in administrative reforms and developmental initiatives in the Darjeeling Hills. His tenure at GTA was noted for his efforts to streamline governance and foster collaboration between the state and local stakeholders.
Bharti’s extensive experience in district administration includes his tenure as the District Magistrate of Birbhum and Bankura. As the DM of Bankura for over 12 years, he was instrumental in implementing welfare schemes and driving socio-economic development. His leadership during these assignments earned him a reputation for efficient governance and people-centric policymaking.
In addition to his roles as a District Magistrate, Bharti has held several key positions, including Commissioner of the Government of West Bengal and Chief Executive Officer for Kolkata Metropolitan Development. These roles enabled him to contribute significantly to urban development and infrastructure projects across the state.
Known for his dynamic approach and commitment to public service, Bharti’s new role is expected to bring fresh perspectives and a strategic vision to the Science & Technology and Biotechnology Department, furthering West Bengal’s progress in these critical areas.
