New Delhi: The India Internet Governance Forum (IIGF) 2024 is set to take place on December 9-10 at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Center, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The event will be inaugurated by Jitin Prasada, Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, alongside S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
Organized by MeitY and the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), the forum will focus on critical aspects of Internet governance, with this year’s theme being “Innovating Internet Governance for India.” The discussions will aim to address key challenges such as bridging the digital divide, creating legal frameworks for balanced growth, and ensuring cybersecurity in an increasingly digitized world.
The fourth edition of IIGF will bring together representatives from the government, private sector, civil society, and technical communities to discuss pressing issues in Internet governance. A major focus will be on empowering underserved populations by improving digital access and inclusion. The forum will also examine policies that promote data privacy, strengthen cybersecurity, and enhance public trust in the Internet ecosystem.
In line with global discussions on artificial intelligence, IIGF 2024 will highlight the ethical use of AI to ensure societal benefit. Another critical area of focus will be on promoting sustainability in the digital space, including energy-efficient practices in Internet infrastructure.
This initiative is part of India’s ongoing efforts to lead in shaping global Internet policies. Since its inception in 2021, the IIGF has served as the Indian chapter of the United Nations Internet Governance Forum, fostering dialogue on public policy issues related to the Internet while ensuring collaboration among diverse stakeholders.
By addressing challenges such as data protection, AI ethics, and equitable Internet access, the forum aims to contribute to a secure and inclusive digital future.
