Chennai: Indian drone companies Garuda Aerospace and Zuppa have entered into a strategic partnership to advance indigenous and cyber-secure drone technology. The collaboration includes an undisclosed investment and product orders, reflecting a push to reduce reliance on imported components and enhance India’s position in the global drone market.
Boosting Indigenous Drone Capabilities
Zuppa, a deep-tech company specializing in secure drone autopilot systems, designs its own autopilot hardware and firmware to mitigate cybersecurity risks. Unlike many manufacturers that depend on imported electronic components, Zuppa develops its systems with non-Chinese origin parts, strengthening India’s push for self-reliance in drone technology. The partnership with Garuda Aerospace, a major player in the agriculture and defense drone sectors, is expected to accelerate the adoption of secure, locally developed drone solutions.
Garuda Aerospace, which focuses on large-scale drone deployments, will leverage Zuppa’s technology to enhance security and efficiency across applications. The companies aim to create standardized drone platforms adaptable to different industries, following a model similar to the automotive and consumer electronics sectors.
Industry Leaders on the Collaboration
Agnishwar Jayprakash, Founder and CEO of Garuda Aerospace, emphasized the need for self-reliant drone technologies. “Our investment in Zuppa is part of our commitment to strengthening India’s indigenous drone ecosystem. This collaboration aligns with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and will support the development of secure drone solutions for defense and commercial use,” he said.
Sai Pattabiram, Founder and MD of Zuppa, highlighted the industry’s need to shift from an assembly-based model to a structured ecosystem similar to the automotive and aerospace industries. “India has the potential to become a global hub for secure drones, but this requires cooperation among key players. Our partnership with Garuda Aerospace is a step towards that goal,” he said.
With growing government support for indigenous drone manufacturing and increased demand for secure drone solutions in defense and industrial sectors, the Garuda-Zuppa partnership signals a broader shift towards self-sufficiency in India’s drone industry.
