New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has partnered with HLL Lifecare Limited to enhance emergency response and medical support for accident victims on highways. The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to improve the Incident Management System (IMS) by reducing response times and streamlining access to medical care.
Strengthening Emergency Services on Highways
The agreement focuses on upgrading NHAI’s existing emergency infrastructure, including ambulances, patrol vehicles, and cranes. HLL Lifecare will manage Trauma Centres and Emergency Stabilization Centers along highways to provide immediate medical attention. The initiative will also integrate geo-tagging and mapping of healthcare facilities to ensure faster referrals.
To enhance response efficiency, real-time tracking of ambulances will be introduced, enabling quicker deployment of medical teams. Select highway locations will be equipped with state-of-the-art ambulances with Basic Life Support (BLS) systems.
Training Programs and Health Initiatives
The MoU includes provisions for training toll plaza staff in basic life support and emergency response procedures. Psychological support and stress management training will also be provided. Additionally, health screening camps for truck drivers and highway users will be set up at rest areas to detect conditions such as tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and oral cancer.
A dedicated Technical Support Unit will oversee the implementation of these initiatives, working in coordination with NHAI officials.
Five-Year Implementation Plan
The partnership is set for five years, with an emphasis on reducing accident-related fatalities by optimizing emergency medical services. By improving infrastructure and coordination, the initiative aims to strengthen highway safety measures and ensure faster medical intervention during critical situations.
